![]() ![]() Men and women (n=18,097, 52% women, 56☑2 years) were randomly recruited from various villages in Molise (Italy) in the framework of the population-based cohort study "Moli-sani". The association of these platelet indices with a number of biochemical, environmental and clinical variables was studied in a large cohort of the general population. The understanding of non-genetic regulation of platelet indices-platelet count, plateletcrit, mean platelet volume, and platelet distribution width-is limited. Conclusion: Taken together, data show that cinnamon extract can inhibit platelet function and as a complementary medicine were used in cardiovascular disorder. Results: This article presents a comprehensive analysis of cinnamon compounds and their effects on platelet function and cardiovascular disease. Methods: Using the search engine tools such as PubMed and Scopus, the articles that were studied cinnamon and its effects on platelets function and cardiovascular disease were under reviewed. Objective: The goal of this review is to find out whether cinnamon extract was used as an anticoagulant and anti-aggregation properties for the platelets or not. Moreover, anti-inflammatory and lipid lowering properties of cinnamon has been proven. The bark and leaf of cinnamon contain essential oils and derivatives including cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid and several other compounds such as polyphenols. No significant differences wereobserved for platelet indices across various groups formulated based uponfasting triglycerides. A similar trend was observed for plateletcount after adjusting for age, where low levels of platelet levels were associatedwith hypocholesterolemia and hypercholesterolemia (p=0.021).Conclusion: Higher MPV and low total platelet counts were associated withthe observed extremes of cholesterol range.
